This is my first blog posting on my site which details some of my writing adventures. Recently, I discovered that I actually do enjoy writing, the act of it. For years after grad school, I thought I hated writing, and the fact that I still wrote showed me how masochistic I actually was. But then I fell back in love with writing one morning because I felt the intoxicating feeling of just writing down my ideas and totally geeking out on words. Now I think this shows the nature of a long-term relationship, falling in and out of love.
I remember the first time I wrote a story. I was in the first grade. My story had a leprechaun, some gold coins, a rainbow, a unicorn, and my protagonist was on the longest journey. I wanted my story to keep going. And I knew it could, if only I kept writing. I could go on and on.
A classmate sitting across from me told me I couldn’t write a story that long. He said I couldn’t take up more than a page. I said, “Stories can be as long as you want.”
And so this site can tell a story too, a small one, a short one, about why, after all these years, I still call myself a writer.
